Intro to Biochar: Hands-On Workshop & Demonstration
Biochar — a highly porous form of charcoal — is rapidly gaining recognition as a powerful tool for regenerative land management. It enhances soil water retention, improves nutrient availability, supports microbial life, and provides a reliable pathway to capture carbon, helping to mitigate climate challenges.
In this interactive workshop, participants will get an overview of the fundamentals of biochar: its history, properties, and diverse uses in soils, compost, and barns. The session combines classroom-style learning with a hands-on demonstration using a Ring of Fire kiln. Participants will help with the burn process, observe how woody biomass is transformed into biochar, and bring home a small sample of raw biochar.
What to bring:
A bucket (for your take-home biochar)
Sturdy shoes and clothing suitable for outdoor work
Don't miss out on this opportunity to expand your knowledge and connect with other growers exploring practical climate solutions. See you on the farm!
